Quality Programming on the Key Public and Social Issues – Programming on Reconciliation and Conflict-Related Issues

  • TV Networking stations - TV Art, TV Era, TV Hana, TV M, TV Tera, TV Vis, TV Zdravkin; Project: “Macedonia on the Palm of Your Hand” (40-minute weekly magazine-type common program; bi-lingual – Albanian and Macedonian)
  • TV Menada; Project: “Talks Without Masks” (serial of 30-minute documentaries and debates treating inter-ethnic issues in Tetovo region)

2007 was stable for Macedonia in general. According to reports by the EU Commission 2007 was a year of economy reforms. The country has made a headway but some political criteria need to be fulfilled. The country was praised for its fight against corruption, improvement of minority rights and adoption of the laws on police and religious community. Judiciary and public administration were pinpointed as most critical sectors that required more intensive and fast reforms with wide consensus. The European Commission recommended all political powers to collaborate constructively within the democratic institutions. Given the economy in Macedonia, the European Commission concluded that the business climate was improved, while the growth was paced up. In addition to the progress, gray economy remained at high level and the increased unemployment posed a serious problem. The report contained no recommendation for setting an EU negotiation date.

As for the media, a Strategy for broadcasting development was adopted for the period from 2008 to 2012. Regarding this process several researches and analyses were conducted by the Council including Media Market and Audience. Along with this process, adoption of all the necessary by laws and completion of the process of transferring previously granted concessions for broadcasting activity with licenses were completed by the Council. However, the media market remained largely overcrowded, especially in the broadcasting sphere, which does not provide sustainability of media. Even though there is improvement in the general economic situation in Macedonia, advertising investments did not increase significantly compared to 2004. The financial situation of the media remains very weak, especially of local outlets or those targeting special audiences (smaller and vulnerable ethnic minorities and other marginalized social groups).

mh program has been implemented according to the plan and the results achieved by the partners correspond to the objectives as defined in the LOG-Frame.
