"For way too long, most powerful media in the former Yugoslavia have presented a distorted vision of the reality upon instruction from the authorities. Some are still today only too happy to cover up atrocious crimes and spread mad conspiracy theories. If Serbia, in particular, wants to move ahead on the path to democracy, strong, professional and independent media must be strenghtened. Just like the judiciary, media are essential safeguards against abuses of power."
